Speakers from Wanda, CITIC Investment Bank, Sanpower, Greenland and China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corp were at the conference to explain how they have achieved success in the UK and what they have learned from their ventures there.

David Yin, Vice-President of Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd., explained, "The UK has strong expertise in research and development, as well as sophisticated financing channels, and offers plenty of support, which make it a powerful springboard for Chinese companies entering global markets." He reminded Chinese investors: "Overseas and domestic markets are two very different things. You must do your homework and understand the local environment, laws and culture, adapting your operations to the conditions there."

The conference was opened by Lord Sassoon, chairman of CBBC. Keynote speakers included HM Ambassador Sir Sebastian Wood and senior representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, GNet Group and the Bank of China. Expert panellists explored the drivers behind the growing tide of Chinese investment in the UK and how companies from the two countries could combine their powerful strengths in the UK, China and in third markets around the world.

"The China Outbound Conference 2014 was a unique opportunity to present high-quality UK investment opportunities to Chinese investors," said Stephen Phillips, chief executive of the China-Britain Business Council. "UK Trade & Investment, London & Partners, UK Invest, Scottish Development International and the Welsh Government, amongst others, were all here today to showcase opportunities offering investors exciting prospects to explore the UK and third markets."

British and Chinese industry leaders from three key sectors - advanced technology; retail; and regeneration, property and infrastructure - spoke about sector-specific opportunities and support to help Chinese investors going global.

It was revealed on one panel that the UK has infrastructure projects worth at least 350 billion pounds for which investment is sought. Public-private partnerships (PPP) were also examined, through which the powerful combination of Britain's expertise in financing and China's experience of delivering large-scale construction projects could offer win-win opportunities for collaboration.

The investment opportunities drew keen interest from Chinese companies. CBBC also announced the launch of its new Chinese-language 'China Outbound' website - www.chinaoutbound.org - which is designed to give Chinese investors a more in-depth understanding of investment opportunities and a wealth of practical information.
