CA Announces Emergency Plans in Effect After an Earthquake in Southwest China (Sichuan Province)

BEIJING, May 13 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- A major earthquake hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province at 14:28pm, PEK time on May 12, 2008. Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU) airport is closed. 12 Air China (“CA”) flights flying to Chengdu have been diverted to other airports.

CA announced emergency plans to be in effect from 15:00pm local time. All CA flights in the air are in close communications with company headquarters. Upon issuing of this release, no casualties or property damage have been reported at the CA southwest subsidiary.

CA has instructed all affected offices to implement emergency plans and take good care of stranded passengers. CA has also prepared standby fleets for restored operations and special tasks.
